2010 Biodiversity Indicators Partnership
What is the 2010 BIP?
The 2010 Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) is a new initiative that brings together the numerous organisations and agencies working on 2010 biodiversity indicators in support of the 2010 target.
The BIP will support the regular delivery of the 2010 indicators at the global level in a way that is useful for policy intervention and communicating degree of success in achieving the 2010 target. In addition, it will establish links between global and regional biodiversity indicator development, and relate this work to other targets and indicators used in the various multilateral environmental agreements, and other international initiatives such as the Millennium Development Goals.
The 2010 BIP project will work to identify the needs of users at national and international scales, and to explore the various ways in which the 2010 indicators can be applied and communicated.
It is expected that BIP outputs will enable the identification of trends in the global loss of biodiversity, will help a broad range of users to understand biodiversity loss, and will play an important role in enabling the 2010 target to be met at national, regional, and global levels.
